The Simple Solution to a Green Energy Future

Class Description
Nearly a century ago, American scientist Hermann Muller claimed that there is no safe dose of radiation and that all doses are cumulative. Muller never proved his claims, and in all the years since neither has anyone else. Even so, his infamous linear no-threshold (LNT) hypothesis has become the underlying basis of virtually all safety regulations for nuclear power. This persistent assumption of harm in the absence of evidence has stoked our nuclear fears and needlessly driven up the cost of nuclear power.
In plain, non-technical language, Mike Conley will join EmpowerU to quell concerns about low-dose radiation by guiding us through Muller’s bad science (BS).
He will help our viewers to discover a simple solution that could quickly resolve the LNT bottleneck to our clean-energy future, including small modular reactors (SMRs) which, by all available evidence, will soon be part of Ohio’s energy solution considering the increasing number of data centers.
Speaker Bio
Mike Conley is a writer living in the hills of Echo Park, a mile from downtown Los Angeles.
Fascinated by science since he was a child, Mike was drawn to the ingenuity, simplicity and safety of the Molten Salt Reactor.
To learn more, he became a member of the Thorium Energy Alliance, a close-knit community of MSR advocates. His approach to the brainiacs he’s met through the TEA is simple: If they explain their technology to him, he’ll explain it to the world. His latest book The LNT Report is part of that ongoing project.
